Hey guys! Welcome back to my channel! Today's vlog is all about how us TKW (Tenaga Kerja Wanita) in Taiwan get ready for the holy month of Ramadan. It's a special time for us, and even though we're far from home, we try our best to make it meaningful and enjoyable. I'll be taking you along as I share our simple yet delicious menu ideas, tips for staying strong during fasting, and how we create a sense of community even when we're away from our families. So grab a snack (or maybe wait until iftar!) and let's dive in!
Persiapan Menyambut Puasa di Taiwan: Awal yang Penuh Semangat
Alright, so the first thing on the agenda is, of course, the preparations! Ramadan in Taiwan is a bit different from back home, but the spirit is just as strong. We, the TKW in Taiwan, often start by getting together, usually in our dorms or rented rooms, and planning out our meals and activities for the entire month. This is a super important step, because it helps us to stay organized and not go crazy! One of the biggest challenges for us is finding halal food, especially ingredients that we can cook with. Luckily, Taiwan has a growing Muslim community, so we do have some options. We often visit the local halal grocery stores. They are a lifesaver, seriously. These stores provide us with all the essentials. They sell everything from the staples like rice, noodles, and spices to the more exciting stuff like imported halal meats and snacks. It's like a little slice of home right here in Taiwan.
Then there's the community aspect. We rely on each other to support one another, so we can get through these tough times together. We often share recipes, offer encouragement, and even have group iftar (the evening meal to break your fast) gatherings. This kind of sense of togetherness really helps to combat any feelings of loneliness or homesickness that might creep in during this month. It's like having a second family. We also try to make sure that everyone, regardless of what job they do or where they are from, feels included. It's really the heart of Ramadan in a foreign country.
Now, about our routines. We usually start the day with suhoor, the pre-dawn meal. This is crucial for giving us energy throughout the day. It has to be something that keeps us full until sunset. We aim for a balance of complex carbohydrates, protein, and healthy fats. It's important to make the right choices for our suhoor, you know? This can be things like oatmeal with fruits, eggs with whole-wheat toast, or even a simple nasi uduk (coconut rice) that we make ourselves. Then, it's off to work! Depending on our job, it can be physically demanding. So, staying hydrated is a must, even while fasting.
After a long day of working and fasting, it's iftar time! This is the most special and heartwarming time of the day. We usually break our fast with dates and water, which is the traditional way. It helps to re-energize our bodies. Then, we move on to the main course. The menu varies from day to day, depending on what we have available, but it always has two things: something simple, and something delicious. From there, we pray, we relax, and we enjoy each other's company.
Menu Sederhana, Rasa Luar Biasa: Ide Masakan TKW Taiwan untuk Puasa
Okay, guys, let's talk food! This is where things get interesting. One of the main challenges for us TKW in Taiwan is to cook tasty food even when we're on a tight budget. So, creativity is key! We try to make the most of what we have. It's all about making sure we get enough nutrients and flavor in our meals, while also keeping things simple. We have a couple of go-to recipes that are super easy to make, but they are also packed with goodness.
First up, we have our version of nasi goreng. This is our version of fried rice. It's super versatile. We can make it using any kind of ingredients we have on hand. It could be vegetables like carrots, and beans, and also some leftover chicken or eggs. We season it with soy sauce, maybe a little bit of chili, and there you have it, a quick and filling meal. Another dish is sayur bening, or clear vegetable soup. This is my go-to dish for whenever I need to eat something light. We normally use a variety of vegetables like spinach, corn, and sometimes, a little bit of chicken. It's easy to digest and very hydrating, which is important for staying energized during the day. Sometimes we use tempeh or tofu, which is perfect if you’re looking for a cheaper source of protein.
Then there's our version of mie goreng. This is another staple dish. It's basically fried noodles with vegetables and whatever protein we have available. We like to change the spices up sometimes to keep things interesting. It's a simple, customizable meal, so we always love it. We also love our snacks like gorengan. It's all about trying to replicate that home feeling, even when we are far away. We also try to bake our own cakes and pastries. It helps to keep us occupied, and it is also delicious.
But the best part is sharing. We often take turns cooking and sharing our meals. It's a way of showing love and supporting each other. We might make a big batch of food and share it amongst our friends. Or, we might take some of our meals to those who are unable to cook themselves. It’s a very important and beautiful part of what Ramadan is all about. The spirit of generosity is a must for us. So, even though our menu is simple, the taste is always amazing.
Tips and Tricks: Bertahan di Tengah Kesibukan Selama Puasa di Taiwan
Right, so let's get into some tips and tricks to help you get through your Ramadan in Taiwan, guys! Fasting while working far from home can be really challenging, but with the right mindset and some practical strategies, we can all do it! First off, you gotta stay hydrated! Even though we can’t drink during the day, making sure you drink plenty of water during suhoor and iftar is super important. We also try to eat foods that have high water content, like fruits and vegetables, to help keep us hydrated for longer.
Next, pacing yourself during the day. Avoid working too hard too fast. Instead, try to take regular breaks, even if it's just for a few minutes. Find some quiet time to relax, and avoid strenuous physical activities if possible. If you can, try and adjust your schedule to accommodate your fasting hours. This might mean talking to your employer about taking breaks at specific times or adjusting your working hours. The more flexibility, the better!
Also, it is so crucial to take care of your mental well-being! Ramadan can be tough, both physically and emotionally. It's so important to have a strong support system. This means that we reach out to our friends, family, and community to offer encouragement and share our experiences. If you're struggling, don't be afraid to talk about it! Maybe join a local community group or online forums to share your experience with other people. Do whatever you can to stay connected. It will help a lot.
Lastly, don't be too hard on yourself! Remember that it's okay to have off days. If you don't feel well, it's better to rest. Ramadan is not about pushing yourself to the limit. It is about self-reflection, spiritual growth, and community. Remember that you are not alone. We are all in this together. Celebrate your achievements, and don't worry about being perfect.
Menjaga Semangat: Kegiatan dan Tradisi TKW Taiwan Selama Ramadan
Apart from the food and the practical tips, there are also a lot of things we do to keep the Ramadan spirit alive and thriving. We are all about traditions! We try to replicate some of the traditions we enjoyed back home. Many of us like to read the Quran, pray regularly, and participate in other religious activities.
Then, there are the social activities. We love to get together for iftar parties and other gatherings. We try to organize these events. We also try to include everyone, so no one feels left out. We love to decorate our dorms or apartments with Ramadan decorations to make the place feel festive. Even the smallest gesture can bring a lot of joy. It will also remind us about the spirit of Ramadan! We are always happy to share our experiences and learn from each other. Sometimes, we make it a point to go out. We'll go to the mosque for prayers or the park for some fresh air.
It’s also important to focus on spiritual growth. Ramadan is a time for self-reflection and connection with Allah. We take time to pray, read the Quran, and do acts of charity. These small acts can give us a sense of purpose. We focus on developing our spiritual side. This will make it easier to endure all the challenges. During this holy month, we are at our most positive and productive.
Penutup: Semangat dan Kebersamaan di Tanah Rantau

While we miss our families and homes, we make the most of what we have. We try to support each other and create a strong sense of community. Remember to stay positive and stay strong.
